Dear Friend,
I am a 36 year old gay man who is having some legal troubles. Over a year ago, I had a falling out with a business partner who, when he discovered I was gay, talked a 15 year old into accusing me of touching him. In turn, my former business partner managed to literally steal my business, driving me into bankruptcy, and has smeared my name terribly.Recently, a year after the young man initially contacted police, I discovered that I was going to be charged with Indecent Liberties with a Minor, and with simple assault for supposedly touching an 18 year old. The charges will be filed in NC, and I am in constant contact with the investigating officer, who has expressed her opinion to me several times that she doesn't understand why, with the info they have, the DA would pursue this charge. I am at a loss. I live in VA, the charges will be in NC, and due to this situation, I am financially devastated. I cannot live the rest of my life as a registered sex offender, and the risk of that scares me badly. This would kill my father, having to go through this, and as you know, found guilty or not, I will be marked forever by this. Where can I go for help, if anywhere? Please advise me on what to do in this situation, as I am totally lost.
